Original Paintings

In my most recent work I’m searching for the unexpected through abstract expression. The warmth of the palettes and energy of the marks are familiar. But sometimes an odd mark or a surprising color makes the whole piece come alive.

That’s what I love so much about doing this work.

NEW! TRAVELING MERCIES

These paintings are what is left of the pandemic for me. In the weeks before everything shut down in March of 2020, we were waiting for our new passports to arrive so that we could go on our first trip abroad in the Spring. Instead, we were all home together—kids in their rooms, husband in his new living room/office and me in my studio off the kitchen. I didn’t know it while painting these in 2022 and early this year, but now I see that they represent those journeys not taken.

Some of the paintings in my 'Traveling Mercies' series have an atmospheric quality to them—maybe you could step into that world and be surrounded by the beautiful light and the intriguing darks, lines and shape layered over again and again.

When really looking at some of them you feel as if you are on a precipice and you could plunge into the history of that painting. It feels exciting and curious. You can see through and beyond what is on the surface—and I find that thrilling There might be echoes of places and things I never saw but hope one day to experience fully. These are my unexpected traveling mercies.

THE MINUET COLLECTION

This series was originally done as a kind of experiment. I worked on them all at once, systematically making marks using each color. My brush strokes and marks—a 'little dance' across the paper. The colors were bold and beautiful. Colors I'd never used before. They are small—6 inches square. Every piece is exciting—intriguing. They are a little bit messy, like sketches, but once finished and hung they truly are little jewels.

SMALL PAINTINGS ON PAPER

These small paintings are spontaneous and exuberant. They are perfect for a small nook in your favorite room or a gift for your favorite art lover.

SEASONS ON PAPER

These small paintings on paper started in the winter. They were a bright spot in my days and continued through the seasons with a  new set with each change. They are so lovely and joyful to me. They add a bright spot to any dark corner. It’s summertime now, I will be the final set soon. . .
